Things to do in Wasilla
Eagle River Nature Center
The Eagle River Nature Center serves as a gateway to the 500,000-acre Chugach State Park. Indoor and outdoor programs offered by the center teach visitors about the kinds of flora, fauna, and geographic features they might encounter inside the park in order to foster greater appreciation of and respect for one of Alaska's most accessible wilderness areas. Call (907) 694-2108 for more information.

Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Headquarters
This rustic log cabin headquarters and visitor center just south of the Parks Highway contains interpretive displays and historical artifacts relating to the Iditarod dogsled race. Visitors can view videos of past races, wander through the museum, and take dogsled rides during summer months (fee). Unlike many attractions in Alaska, the headquarters stays open all year and really begins to get crowded in the weeks leading up to the race, which officially starts in Wasilla the day after its ceremonial-and much publicized-start in Anchorage. Call (907) 376-5155 for more information.
Knik Goose Bay Rd, mile 2.2, Wasilla, AK
Knik Museum & Sled Dog Mushers' Hall of Fame
This small historical museum is housed in Knik Hall, one of only two buildings remaining in Knik, once a bustling port used by miners heading up the Iditarod Trail to Alaska's western goldfields. Although the town has faded into history, the museum's collection of old photographs, period furniture, and unique artifacts still attracts visitors interested in gold rush and local history. The main draw of the museum, though, is undoubtedly the Sled Dog Mushers' Hall of Fame located on the second floor. Call (907) 376-2005 for more information.
