Alaska, from Ketchikan, Juneau, the state capital to Anchorage, the largest city, is enjoying the glorious yet brief summer of the extreme Northwest. Ketchikan at the southern end of the inside passage, is called the salmon capital of the world and now is the time for fishing. Juneau, although it has more cars than people, is only accessible by water or air. The separation from the Lower 48 doesn't deter visitors, with tourism being an important part of Juneau's economy. Skagway, north of Juneau is also a popular tourist destination and common stop for cruise ships.
Anchorage, located in the South Central region of Alaska, is the most urban city in the state. Visitors can enjoy the bounty of local growers and artisans at the Anchorage Market & Festival. The market is held Saturday and Sunday May through the Labor Day. A great place to find local crafts, sample local foods, and enjoy live entertainment. There is a kid's market, so bring the entire family for a good time. The Best Western Golden Lion Hotel is an ideal location for visitors to Anchorage.
